We have read a legend about the Rakaia Gorge Taniwha. In groups, we have been retelling the story in different ways and working on reading activities. One activity we had to do was called a '5 picture story.' We had to draw 5 pictures from the story and use the pictures to retell it to someone else. No words or labels were allowed on the pictures. Mya did an awesome job of her pictures... check them out.
WALT retell a story in our own words. We are learning to pick out the main points and to also use the Puppet Pals app on the iPad. Here are some examples of a myth, legend or folktale being retold as a video. What have they done well? What ideas could we use?
This term, we are going to be reading lots of non-fiction. This week, we spent some time comparing fiction to fiction. We had a look through some fiction books and made a list of features. Then we did the same with non-fiction. We even found some features that were found in both. We used a venn diagram to compare the two types of texts.
Check us out being text feature detectives!
