Thank you to everyone who helped decorate the window to wish me a happy birthday today. I blame Miss Tomkinson for spreading the word around the school!
On Friday, we had our first celebration assembly for 2014. Before the assembly, we had a vote to find out who our MVP is. The MVP is the most valued person - the person who has been showing they use the key competencies well.
Well done to these awesome people who were nominated this week: Ashleigh, Jack, Todd, Hannah, Macy, Emma, TC, Amy, Brylie and Cade. You have all been noticed for doing the right thing at Tinwald School. Congratulations to Jack who won our award.
Jack was nominated for being a great friend, being funny and friendly, thinking positive and always being ready. These are great skills to have Jack.
Congratulations to Byron, Ethan, Hannah, Macy, Brodie, Mackenzie, Lucan, Brendan, Todd and TC who represented Tinwald at the Year 5/6 Ashburton Trust Cricket Tournament this week. Each team had 4 games during the day. Every player got to bowl, bat and field and for some, this was their first taste of playing cricket. Team 1 made the final and played Allenton. Unfortunately, Allenton was the better team and so team 1 came 2nd. Team 2 had 3 losses in the morning but managed a really good win against Hinds to come 5th overall. Thanks to the parents who transported the players and helped with the teams.
An avatar is an online identity of yourself. You use it instead of showing your real picture. They are often used when you comment on blogs, participate on social media or use the internet. Everyone is going to create an avatar - the idea is to find something that represents you.
Check out these websites that help you to make an avatar.
You are going to create one and then upload it to your blog page.
On Friday, we had our election for a student council rep. Anyone in Totara could apply and we were lucky to have 5 excellent people stand up and share why they would be the best person for the job. We heard about their experience, skills and ideas and it was a very tricky decision.
Here are some of the things each person said:
Well... we have had the 1st HTJ for 2014 and we have had to learn how to handle getting so close! We went into the final activity with the chance to win, but we were pipped by R8. The challenges were all great fun and it was really good to see Totara students working together to come up with good strategies to try. Check out some photos from the 3 events:
On Tuesday, we are going to be exploring these questions. Here is a video which explains what a blog is. We will watch it and see if we understand.
During our first week of school, we have been writing clues about ourselves and sharing them with others to help get to know everyone. The problem is... some of what we wrote is lies! Yes that's right, we are all liars. Can you pick which statement is not true in everyone's piece of writing?
